The Notre Dame Symphony Orchestra (NDSO), directed by Daniel Stowe, is an ensemble of approximately 100 musicians devoted to performing the orchestral music of the 18th-21st centuries. Membership is open to all members of the Notre Dame and South Bend communities (not just Music majors). For more information on auditions and concert schedules, please note the pages on the left.
The orchestra rehearses on Tuesday evenings and presents 4-5 concerts annually in the Marie DeBartolo Center for Performing Arts. Each year a Concerto Competition for instrumental performers is held in the fall semester, with the winner(s) appearing alongside the NDSO in concert in the spring.
In addition to these concerts, NDSO typically goes on tour once every two years, with recent destinations including Poland, Central America, and the Pacific Northwest. The latest tour was with the Glee Club during winter break of 2023. The two groups had the opportunity to perform their holiday program in distinguished venues such as Heinz Hall (Pittsburgh), Verizon Hall (Philadelphia), and the Church of St. Paul the Apostle (New York City).
